[Jackson's] Pacolet's best son was the great Monsieur Tonson, which, after losing his first start, was undefeated for the remainder of his career, winning his other 11 races; Monsieur Tonson enjoyed a good measure of success as a stallion, both of sons and daughters, including being Leading Sire in America in 1834; and of 2) Wilkes' Wonder, sire of Bet Bosley, the 5th dam of a) Mollie McCarty (1876 California Derby); b) Belle (1878 Alabama Stakes); c) Lord Murphy (1879 Kentucky Derby); d) Sally Black (1880 California Derby); and of e) Phillip S (1884 California Derby); 4th dam of Black Maria, winner of Jockey Club Purses at Washington and Charleston in 1803; and 5th dam of Lady Lightfoot, one of the greatest racemares of the 19th century, winner of 30 to 40 races, many in the highest class, and dam of top class racemare Black Maria | |
