| Foundation Mare Family 31 The family is still extant Dam of 1) Sister to Ruffler, through which the maternal line of the family continues, dam of Woodcock (1721 King's Plates York, Lincoln, 1722 King's Plate Newmarket); and of [Bethell's] Castaway (sire of the dam of top class racehorse [Appleyard's] Conqueror (1734 King's Plates Guildford, Nottingham, York, Lincoln, Newmarket,1735 King's Plate Newmarket), and of the dam of top class racehorse Bald Charlotte (1726 King's Plate [mares] Hambleton,1727 King's Plate [mares] Newmarket, King's Plate Winchester)); and dam of 2) high class racehorse Ruffler, winner of good races in the 1700s decade The English and French classic winners produced by Family 31 are Ruler (1780 St Leger); Canezou (1848 1000 Guineas); Fazzoletto (1856 2000 Guineas); Lion (1856 Prix du Jockey Club); and Boiard (1873 Prix du Jockey Club, Prix Royal Oak, 1874 Ascot Gold Cup), the last-named the best racehorse produced by the family | |
