There is no 18th century evidence to link this Blunderbuss mare with Kitt [Christopher] Darcy, younger brother of James Darcy, the younger She was described by the racehorse owner Thomas Panton as "a Royal Mare, esteemed the best bred Mare in England" - Whitehall Evening Post 30 December 1760 - 1 January 1761, number 2308. The GSB says she is the dam of [Sir Ralph] Milbanke's Black Mare, but pedigree certificates for the horse Creeper (1716) given by James Darcy, the younger, state Milbanke's Black Mare is a half sister to Kitt Darcy's Royal Mare, not her daughter, both being out of Grey Royal Removal of Milbanke's Black Mare (ancestress of the great racehorse and sire Highflyer) from her progeny significantly reduces the legacy of Kitt Darcy's Royal Mare to the breed but she was the dam of Old Royal, sire of Bald Charlotte (winner of 3 King's Plates 1726-1727); grandam of successful sire Hartley's Blind Horse; and 5th dam of [Old] Standard, sire of Jason (8 King's Plates) |
