He was purchased from the Crofts stud in 1748 by Joseph Morton who was visiting England that year and sent to Virginia in the autumn He raced for a couple of seasons before retiring to stud, but no record of his races survive He was advertised for a stallion from 1751 to 1759 by Mr Morton, covering at Leedstown in King George County (now Westmoreland County) and at Richmond Court House. After Morton's death in 1759, in 1760 he moved to John Tayloe's Mount Airy stud in Richmond County where he died in 1762, aged only 16 He enjoyed some considerable measure of success as a stallion, notably via Brent's Ariel, Lightfoot's Partner, Lloyd's Traveller and Tayloe's Yorick. He was said to be "the first English horse coming into Tidewater that exercised a strong and immediate influence for improvement and his premature death was a distinct loss. His sons were the kings of the turf in their day" |
