| First owned by the 1st Viscount Lonsdale (1645-1700), he may be the same horse as Curwen's Chesnut Arabian as he was later owned by Henry Curwen. He sired the Lowther Barb Mare, out of the Vintner mare, Foundation Mare of Family 9. The Lowther Barb Mare is 3rd dam of [Croft's] Partner (Champion Sire 1737, 1740, 1741 and 1743, and sire of Tartar, the sire of 8 times Champion Sire [King] Herod; top class racehorse Sedbury, winner of 4 King's Plates in 1740 and 1741; Sly, Barforth, Little Partner, Cato, Spectre, Spinster, Badger and Little John, all King's Plate winners; and numerous significant broodmares); 4th dam of [Devonshire] Blacklegs (Champion Sire in 1746); 4th dam of Crab (Champion Sire 1748, 1749, 1750); and 4th dam of Snip (sire of Snap, Champion Sire in 1767, 1768, 1769 and 1771) Also known as Little Barb, under which name he is sire of the dam of Flanderkin (1713 Queen's Plate Newmarket) | |
