Selaby Turk is assumed to be imported in 1699 as one of 9 (unspecified) stallions and 5 mares brought from Barbary by Richard Marshall, Stud Master to William III, Queen Anne and George I. However, this is impossible as all his progeny were foaled in about the 1690s decade. Selaby Turk was therefore probably foaled 1680c. He probably stood at Selaby, Durham where Richard Marshall lived. Sire of Coppin Mare, from which all of Family 28 descends; an unnamed mare from which Family 58 descends; and his only known son Curwen's Old Spot, sire of the dam of Sister One to Mixbury, dam of 1) [Croft's] Partner, 4 times Champion Sire and sire of Tartar, sire of 8 times Champion Sire [King] Herod; 2) King's Plates winners Sedbury, Sly, Barforth, Little Partner, Cato, Spectre, Spinster, Badger and Little John; and 3) Sister to Soreheels - dam of [Devonshire] Blacklegs (Champion Sire 1746); of Crab (Champion Sire 1748, 1749 and 1750); and of Snip, sire of 4 times Champion Sire Snap
