Also known as Pelham's or Marshall's Old Spot, he was probably bred at Selaby by one of the Marshall brothers, John or Richard, and later joined the stud of either Henry Curwen of Workington, Cumberland, or his associate Charles Pelham of Brocklesby Park, Lincolnshire. Sire of 1) the dam of Sister One to Mixbury, dam of a) [Croft's] Partner, 4 times Champion Sire and sire of Tartar, sire of 8 times Champion Sire [King] Herod; b) King's Plates winners Sedbury, Sly, Barforth, Little Partner, Cato, Spectre, Spinster, Badger and Little John; and c) Sister to Soreheels - dam of [Devonshire] Blacklegs (Champion Sire 1746); of Crab (Champion Sire 1748, 1749 and 1750); and of Snip, sire of 4 times Champion Sire Snap; 2) of the dam of Old Coquette and her sister, which both bred on in Family 44; and 3) of the dam of Sister to Westbury of Family 18
