The General Stud Book notes that his dam, Hautboy Mare, may be Grey Wilkes, making him a half brother to Old Country Wench and her sisters. Probably not the same horse as Frampton's Spark, as Grey Wilkes' foaling date of 1702c precludes this. The Earl of Bristol recorded in his Diary that his famous horse Wenn beat Mr. Frampton's Sparke on May 8, 1708 [Royal Studs:207] Sire of an unnamed mare which is grandam of top class racehorse Sampson (1750 King's Plate Lichfield, 1751 King's Plates Winchester, Salisbury, Canterbury, Lewes, Newmarket)
