| An immense broodmare 28 May 1761 - 3rd £50 Ascot; 15 Jun 1761 - 5th £50 Stamford; 27 May 1762 - 4th £50 Wisbech (to Charlotte); 4 Oct 1762 - unplaced 100gns Newmarket The eighth earliest mare in the lineage of Family 1 Unsuccessful on the racecourse, however of the many Family 1 mares of significance to the breed, the most important is Julia with four generations of high-class racemares and broodmares (many of them taproots of various branches of the family) descended from her in the Duke of Grafton's stud Her daughter Promise and her progeny proliferate the family into all the various branches of the family bar three, with two of the remainder, 1-b and 1-c, descending through Julia's daughter Princess, the final branch 1-a descending from a different daughter of Bonny Lass (Julia's dam), an unnamed mare by the Lonsdale Bay Arabian In winter 1771, due to mismanagement Julia got at and ate some withered yew which poisoned her and she died, aged only 15 | |
